A new Air India logo, which will mark the merged Indian Airlines-Air India airline is ready. According to reports, National Aviation Company, the new company formed by the merger of Air India and Indian airlines will have the brand name Air India, while a new logo and livery for the airline will be prepared.

According to reports, the new logo of the Air India-Indian will be a mix of the Air India Centaur and the Indian Airlines Chakra. Consultant Accenture recently held a meeting of the top leadership of both airlines to finalise the logo. All new aircraft delivered to the merged Air India-Indian will sport the new logo, colours and livery of the merged Air India. The airline management has already sent the design of the new Air India livery and logo to Boeing to be painted on to the new aircraft to be delivered to it.

It has already been announced that V Thulasidas, till recently head of Air India, will head the merged airline. Subsidiaries like Alliance Air will be merged into the Air India-Indian Airlines mega airline. According to the action plan, the management is performing a revamp of the ailing airline Alliance Air, and remould it as a low-cost regional airline. The new airline will be based in Mumbai, where Air India is currently head-quartered.

The merged airline of National Aviation Company will start functioning under a unified structure from July 15. Meanwhile, Indian Airlines employees have been making protests that they be given salary arrears of the last ten years before merging Indian with Air India.

The Indian government has already kicked off the process of rationalising and synergising the operations of Air India and Indian Airlines. The merger of Air India and Indian Airlines into one entity has accelerated the process of consolidation in the Indian aviation industry. There are talks that Kingfisher Airlines may be eyeing Air Deccan for a buyout. Recently, the Tata group picked duo a 10% stake in low cost airline SpiceJet.

However, there are still questions to be answered: The rebranding of Indian Airlines as "Indian" was carried out barely two years back, under the same civil aviation ministry and the same civil aviation minister. However, the process has now turned out to be a sheer waste of taxpayer money, since the government has decided to extinguish the Indian brand after the merger.
