Striking workers of government-owned airline Indian have called off their agitation. This follows an assurance from the civil aviation ministry and the Indian management that their demands for wage arrears and parity with Air India workers will be met soon.
After the strike, Indian is still limping back to norms. News reports from the Middle East suggest that many flights are hours behind schedule.
The Air Corporation Employees Union had struck work on Tuesday after walking out of the negotiations with the Indian management. The government immediately suspended 27 Indian staffers and warned of harsh measures. However, the Indian management later said that the penalty has been revoked and the employees taken back to work.
When the employees and the management were engaged in this battle of wits, scores of Indian flights were delayed and there was chaos at airports as hundred of passengers were stranded. Baggage handling and check-in at many airports were disrupted.
