Ground staff of Indian Airlines (Now Indian) have gone on a flash strike from tonight at 930 PM. The Air Corporation Employees Union, which represents a large number of Indian employees said that the Union's talks with the Indian Airlines' management held under the aegis of the Labour Commissioner had failed.
An estimated 12,000 emoployees have joined the strike. The airline union said that this is an indefinite strike. The striking employees include those from baggage loaders to check-in staff. The Union has been agitating for better job prospects and wage arrears for a while.
The employee union claimed that the strike had affected flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
An Indian representative has been quoted as saying that the negotiations were still on, and that an amicable settlement is expected. The strike may also affect flights to Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singaporw, where Indian flies.
