“There is the great danger that the leading role of the European Union in climate protection, outlined at the Bali conference as well as through many declarations and the agreements on objectives, will disappear when it comes to the first concrete legislation,” said the rapporteur of the European Parliament on the inclusion of aviation in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), Peter Liese. At the end of 2006, the European Commission had proposed to include aviation in the ETS.
