General aviation company Indus Aviation Products Pvt Ltd (IAPPL), a
subsidiary of US-based Indus Aviation Inc, has successfully test flown
the first Thorp aircraft that was assembled in India. The aircraft,
Thorp T211, was manufactured in India by a joint venture of two
aviation companies.
The plane was made in US under the 'FAA' type certified process by
IndUS Aviation. Thorp T211 falls under the light sport aircraft
category and can be used for flight training and pleasure flying
purposes.
It was manufactured in India by IndUS Aviation under a collaboration
with Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Ltd (TAAL) of Bangalore. It has
also received certification from India's Director General of Civil
Aviation (DGCA).
IAPPL is expecting to sell around 20 aircraft by the end of 2006, as
there is a great demand for such aircraft for flight training and
another 50 by 2007-end. Thorp T-211 was designed by the legendary
aircraft designer John Thorp in 1946.
