India to sign air service agreement with Iceland

BY A CORRESPONDENT
June 24, 2006

The Indian Government has approved an air service agreement between India and Iceland this Friday. Seen as an important step in bilateral civil aviation relations between the two nations, the agreement will facilitate better air links between the two.

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that the agreement would allow the two countries to designate as many airlines as they wished to fly between the two countries.

In addition, it will also allow either country to revoke, suspend or limit the operating authorisation or the technical permission of an airline designated by the other.

Airlines from both countries can also now fly to any two destinations in the two countries, via any two intermediate points. Additionally, they can fly on to two other points from these locations.

According to a civil aviation ministry spokesperson, "The agreement will be formally signed by the two countries after it is approved by both the governments."
