Air Deccan Airbuses to fly with Rolls-Royce engines

..places $170 million engine order to power 30 Airbus A320s

BY A CORRESPONDENT
April 3, 2006

Air Deccan has placed a $170-million engine order with Rolls-Royce which would be used to power the additional 30 Airbus A320s, which are expected to be delivered this month. The low-cost carrier intends to order for V2500 engines, manufactured by International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in which Rolls-Royce is a partner.

The other partners in the consortium are US-based Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines of Germany.

Air Deccan had placed a similar order for engines last year to power 32 aircraft.

With a range of thrust from 22,000lb-33,000lb, the V2500-A5 is available for Airbus A319, A320 and A321 and A319 Corporate Jet. At present, V2500 engines power over 1,300 aircraft that have been delivered to over 100 customers, while over 5,000 engines are currently on order.

Earlier, Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines had placed orders worth $500 million for its Airbus planes, while another low-cost carrier, IndiGo had also placed orders of $6 billion for powering its 100 Airbus family aircraft.
