Go Air, owned by the Wadias of the Bombay Dyeing group, has placed
an order for 20 Airbus 320s at the ongoing Asian Aerospace Show in
Singapore. This s the first major fleet expansion announced by the
Indian low-cost carrier since its inception last year.
The Airbus order is worth $1.2 billion. Currently, Go Air operates
with a small fleet of three Airbuses.
Said Jeh Wadia, MD of Go Air: "The airline required these planes to
respond to the tremendous growth in air traffic in India." Go Air
currently flies to 11 destinations mainly located in western and
eastern India. The new Airbuses expected to be utilized by Go Air to
make a push into the Northern and Eastern markets.
The Airbuses planes of the A-320 family aircraft family will have a
single-class economy layout with 180 seats.
