Air India is doubling its Delhi-Toronto services from May 1. This was
reported by Talking Tarmac on March 20. The
doubling of flights follows a year of successful operations on this
route.
According to an Air India official talking in Toronto, the flights
would be doubled to every day except Tuesday, stopping over at
Amritsar and Birmingham. He announced this at a function to award
travel agents in Canada. Air India is also recruiting more personnel
for the additional flights.
Air India was also planning to start flights to India from more North
American cities, said Air India official PK Gupta, Ahmedabad, Mumbai,
Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jammu may get more flights to the US and
Canda starting this year, he said. For a long time, Air India has been
hard-pressed to start new flights due to shortage of aircraft. With
the mega order for 68 Boeings getting cleared, Air India hopes to
start more flights with the additional plane. Some of them will be
deployed to serve more American and Canadian cities.
Said Indian Consul General Satish Mehta said: "The key to a thriving
city is having a successful airport which provides excellent air
transport links throughout the world. Toronto is a truly multicultural
city so I welcome this news on behalf of Toronto's Asian community,
and urge people to make use of Air India travel, and enjoy authentic
Indian cuisine, the latest Indian films, and encourage Canadians to
spend their vacations in India."
