Singapore Airlines has reduced flight fares from Kolkata to cities
across Australasia, spurred by increasing business and leisure travel
in these sectors. Singapore Airlines currently operates 47 flights to
India, to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and
Amritsar. The fare reduction is as much as 20%, Singapore Airlines
said in a press release.
According to Singapore Airlines, there is greater leisure travel from
Kolkata to Far East and Australia, coupled with more business flights
to China and Japan. Singapore Airlines is hoping to tap into this
demand with the fare cut.
Among the cities to which fares have been reduced are Bali, Sydney,
Adelaide, Beijing, Melbourne, Brisbane, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo,
Seoul, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka. Singapore Airlines regional airline
subsidiary SilkAir operates eight flights to India, including five to
Kochi and three to Thiruvananthapuram. A Star Alliance member,
Singapore Airlines flies to 91 destinations in 37 countries and would
be the first airline in the world to fly the Airbus A380 in 2006.
"To give impetus to this trend and to provide easier travel
opportunities to more people we have introduced these special fares to
some key cities in the Australasian region," Singapore Airlines said.
