Jet Airways is likely to start services to South Africa. India's
international carrier Air India is also resuming its services to
Durban soon. Air India's Durban flights are to resume by June-July
2006.
This was revealed y Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal in Durban.
He was speaking at an India trade exhibition in cape Town, where he
mentioned that Air India, "and an Indian private airline" will soon
start flying to South Africa. Currently, the only airline with
overseas flying rights is Jet Airways, which has acquired Air Sahara,
another airline which had similar rights.
Currently, only South African Airways operates flights between India
and South Africa. India, which had started flights to South Africa in
1994 at the end of Apartheid, had stopped services some years later.
Now, with more aircraft set to join the Air India fleet, the airline
can devote some time to expanding its route network.
