February 13, 2006

Indigo Airlines, the upcoming low-budget airline will start its operations in July-August with its own planes. The airline had placed an order for 100 Airbus' at the Paris Air show last year.

Bruce Ashby, President and CEO, Indigo Airlines said, "the delivery of our first aircraft will take place some time in July and we will start operations soon thereafter. We plan to start between July one and August five."

The orders placed by Indigo include Airbus A-320, A-319 and A-321 models.

The delivery of planes will start from July and it would soon start its operations thereafter. He said that they plan to start operations between July 1 and August 5.

The delivery of the planes would be such that one plane would be delivered one month till the year end and another nine next year. Ten planes would be delivered each year for the coming ten years.

Ashby said that the pricing would be consistent with other players in the low cost aviation sector like SpiceJet and Air Deccan. He also said that the price would be much less than that of legacy carriers like Indian, Air India, Jet Airways and Air Sahara.

Indigo would operate between metros with stoppages at intermediate points. He quoted examples like Delhi-Ahmedabad-Mumbai or Mumbai- Indore-Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram.

Though the airliner would not offer food during flights, snacks and water could be supplied, he said. He also said that no final decision has been taken on this matter yet.
