Indian steps up operations in South India-Gulf sector

State-owned Indian has announced that direct flights from Chennai and Kozhikode to Dubai will commence from June 1, 2006. In addition, a flight between Thiruvananthapuram and Kuwait via Sharjah would also be operated every Wednesday. Also, frequency of flights on the Thiruvananthapuram-Sharjah route has been increased from four flights a week to six per week.

In a press release on Wednesday, Indian Airlines also announced that daily Chennai-Dubai flights will begin from June 1, with IC 905 leaving Chennai at 2000 hours and arriving at Dubai at 2230 hours (local time). IC 906 would return to Chennai, after leaving Dubai at 1345 hours, to land at 1900 hours.

Additionally, flight frequency on the Kozhikode-Dubai sector have also been increased. Formerly, the carrier flew two flights a week to the Gulf destination. Now, IC 538 will daily leave Kozhikode at 1015 hours and arrive at Dubai at 1245 hours (local time). IC 537 will return to Kozhikode after leaving Dubai at 0200 hours (local time) and arrive at Kozhikode at 0700 hours.

Also, IC 589 will leave at 1345 hours from Thiruvananthapuram every Wednesday and arrive at Kuwait, via Sharjah at 1805 (local time). IC 590 is then set to leave Kuwait every Thursday at 0500 hours (local time) and arrive at Thiruvananthapuram, via Sharjah at 1000 hours.
