Air India has restarted its flights to Muscat from Delhi and Mumbai
effective March 26. There will be three Air India flights each from
Delhi and Mumbai to the Omani capital every week. With the return of
Air India, its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express will now be
limited only to the Kerala sector. Economy and business class seats
are available on the Air India Muscat flights.
According to an Air India official at a press conference in Oman, the
decision to reintroduce the flights was taken after careful
consideration of market trends.
Air India will be using an Airbus 310 to fly the India-Oman routes.
The aircraft will have 20 seats in business class and the rest in
economy. There will be 2 direct and one indirect flight in the
Delhi-Muscat route, while for Mumbai, it will be two indirect and one
direct.
There will also be connection flights to Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai
etc.
According to Air India Express officials, there is demand for business
travel between Muscat and Delhi-Mumbai, which cannot be satisfied by
Air India Express flights. Hence the decision to field the flagship
carrier airline in this route. cargo transport also has been rising
this in sector, another area where Air India Express lags.
Air India Express has already announced its summer travel schedules,
with more flights to Kerala cities of Trivandrum, Kozhikode and Kochi.
