GoAir has announced new flight routes to connect more cities in India.
The new routes are Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Srinagar, Srinagar-Jammu and
Chennai-Delhi. With the addition of the new flights, the total number
of flights operated by GoAir every day goes up to 28 from the current
20. The airline already flies to Mumbai, Goa, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore,
Baroda, Chennai, Pune, Cochin, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur.
Low-cost airline GoAir started operations on November 4 last year.
Currently it has a fleet of three leased Airbus 320s. The company,
owned by the Wadias of Bombay Dyeing, plan to regularly add aircraft,
to have a fleet strength of 33 by the end of three years. At the
recent Singapore Air Show, the airline places orders for 20 Airbuses,
with 10 confirmed orders and options for another 10. The deal was
worth Rs 1.6 billion.
GoAir also has plans to go for an initial public offering in fiscal
2007-2008 to raise more funds for expansion.
The airline also caught attention recently with the tag of 'official
carrier' of the Indian and English cricket teams during the English
tour of India. The newly-purchased Airbus was put on duty to cart the
teams around.
