March 3, 2006

Emirates has announced plans to launch flights to Bangalore from October 29, 2006. The Dubai-Bangalore service will be eight flights a week. This will be Emirates' fifth destination in South India, the rest being Cochin, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and Chennai. Bangalore will be the 86th destination to be serviced by Emirates.

Emirates started flying to South India in 2000 with flights to Chennai. Hyderabad was added in 2001, Cochin in 2002 and Trivandrum as recently as February 2006. Emirates said that the new flights will offer a weekly capacity of 2108 seats plus 120 tonnes of cargo.

Emirates will be deploying Airbus A330-220 and Boeing 777-200 in the new route. Emirates said that these aircraft will be in a three class configuration, designed to offer high standards of comfort, luxury and style. Emirates said that it has started flights to nine new destinations in 2006.

"I thank the Indian Government and Ministry of Civil Aviation for opening up the Indian skies and giving international airlines such as Emirates an opportunity to commence services to a host of new destinations. By the end of this year, Emirates would have launched services to three new Indian cities including Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and Bangalore and strengthened its presence in the country to eight cities served by 71 flights," said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and ChiefExecutive, Emirates Airline and Group.
