Leading Gulf airline Emirates has kicked off its Dubai-Kolkata flights on March 26. The Dubai-headquartered premium airline already has 54 flights to India. According to the airline, the Kolkata fight is part of Emirates' plan to add eight new destinations in 2006.

Emirates non-stop Dubai-Kolkta flights will fly six times a week to Kokata from Dubai. As an introductory offer, tickets will be available for economy class at Rs 15,000, business class at 35,000 and first class at Rs 43,000. These low ticket fares will be valid till October 31.

Emirates EK 548 flight will be using Airbus 330-200 planes to fly to Kolkata. Emirates hopes that the new flight to Kolkata will help boost business and investment in the local economies.

With the addition of Kolkata to its map, Emirates now fies to seven Indian cities with 63 flights a week. Emirates recently launched flights to Kerala capital of Trivandrum in January. In October, the airline is planning flights to Bangalore.

On March 27, Emirates also added Addis Ababa to its route network. Said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group: 'Emirates has built a reputation for making available to its customers a high-quality flying experience at a competitive price. We are happy that the time has come to extend our services to Kolkata and Addis Ababa customers and to enable them to experience the Emirates difference first-hand.'
