Air India is planning to increase the frequency of its Amritsar-Birmingham-Toronto
flight to six times a week. The move comes within a few months of
restarting Air India flights to Toronto. Air India says that this
route has done extremely well in this period. As of now, Air India
flies Amirtsar-Toronto via Birmingham three days a week.
Tuesday will be only day when Air India wont be flying this route. Air
India currently flies to and from 13 airports in India.
Both Toronto and Birmingham have a big Punjabi population, which Air
India hopes to tap better with the increased frequency.
The Chandigarh administration recently moved a proposal to elevate the
Chandigarh airport to international status. Once it comes through,
Punjabis stand to gain more i terms of international flights.
Air India is also planning to introduce an Amristar-Dubai flight
through its low cost subsidiary Air India Express. It will start with
four flights a week. Depending on the response, the flight frequency
may be hiked later.
