Once the new Boeing 747-800 aircraft join the Air India Express fleet,
the low-cost subsidiary of Air India is expected to start flying to
Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The tentative date to start these flights
is March-end. Both services will be six flights a week. Air India
Express is also planning to start more services to Abu Dhba and Muscat
from Kerala during summer.
The addition of these four new Boeings will increase Air India Express
fleet strength to seven and help Air India Express launch more
low-budget overseas flights.
Air-India company secretary S Venkat has been quoted as saying that
the airline is standardising departure timing from the destinations in
the Gulf.
Air India placed a mega-order for 68 Boeing aircraft in January as
part of its fleet expansion program. Some of these aircraft will go to
Air India Express. Started in 2005, Air India Express is the low-cost
subsidiary of Air India for overseas flights.
