INDIAN CREW

Indian Airlines to ground overweight crew

BY A CORRESPONDENT
May20, 2006

Indian Airlines, now Indian, is planning to ground its overweight crew. The airline is planning to make the rule applicable for both men and women employees. Till now, Indian employees used to get a 3kg grace if they were overweight. Not anymore.

The airline feels that being in a service industry, its in-flight staff have to be presentable. If the staffers do not conform to the weight norms, they will be grounded. They will have to shape up within a period of 45 days.

Recently, Air India also came out with a similar plan to ground its overweight crew. Now, Indian Airlines is following suit.

According to Indian Airlines chairman and managing director Vishwapati Trivedi, the airline's crew members have also agreed to the proposal.
