A fire broke out at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport
on Monday night. The fire was noticed in the first floor of the
domestic terminal 1B at around 8.30 PM. The lounge was immediately
evacuated and the fire tenders rushed in. The blaze was brought under
control by around 9.15 PM.
The fire, which was termed as "minor," did not cause any injuries, but
destroyed parts of Jet Airways and Air Sahara lounges on the first
floor. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
A short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the fire. The
Airports Authority of India has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Last month too, a minor fire was reported at the Delhi airport.
The terminal was shut for about an hour. Though flights were not
cancelled, there were many delays due to the incident.
