Air India has signed a $2 billion deal with GE Aviation for supplying
engines for its Boeing planes. The engines will power its new Boeing
777 and 787 fleets. The deal was signed at the Asian Aerospace Show in
Singapore's Changi.

Said Chairman and Managing Director of Air India V Thulasidas: "The
order of 50 Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft all powered by GE engines
marks a major expansion of Air India's fleet... We are excited at the
prospect of the fuel efficiency and performance of the GE engines that
Air India hopes to gain from."
Air India also placed orders for GE Aviation's GE90-115B engines.
These will be fitted on 777-200LRs and 15 777-300ERs. Besides, Air
India has also ordered GE Aviation's GEnx engines which will power the
Boeing 787-8s.
The 777s will start landing in India from next year, while the 787
deliveries will begin in 2008.
Said President of GE Aviation Scott Donnelly: "Our GE90-115B engines
have performed extremely well since entering service last year, and we
anticipate the GEnx engine to experience similar results when it
enters service."
