Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, is planning to introduce more flights to India. As part of its plan to focus more on the sub-continent, it has unveiled a holiday package to fly to Dubai from Chennai. The package will be extended to other cities in India from where Emirates flies to Dubai. The idea is to promote Dubai as a shopping and sigh-seeing destination.

The Emirates airline holiday package is arranged by Emirates Holidays. the tour organising division of the airline. For a round trip to Dubai from Chennai on economy class, the package costs Rs 28,900 per person. The package primarily targets first time flyers to Dubai from India. At Dubai, Emirates arranges hotel accommodation with breakfast, assistance at the Dubai international airport, airport transfers and hotel, besides all taxes and service charges.

The Emirates Holidays travel package can also be availed on a single sharing basis and for family accommodation including shopping and sight seeing. According to Sudhir Sukumaran, sales manager, Emirates Airline, families can pay an additional charge of Rs 11,000 and upwards if they travel with children. The holiday travel offer is available till October 11,

Currently, airline flies to seven Indian cities from Dubai, including Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. There are a total of 71 flights to India. The airline is planning to open more routes to India and increase frequency in existing routes.

Emirates is one of the airlines which have ordered for the superjumbo Airbus A380. The airline is expected to receive the aircraft in the third quarter of 2007-2008. But it is not clear whether the aircraft will be deployed in India-Dubai sector.
