Air Deccan today launched its Delhi-Leh flights. Leh has India's highest civilian airport. Situated in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, the airline has made Leh its third destination in the picturesque but troble-torn state of Jammu and kashmir. Air Deccan already operates low-cost budget flights to Jammu, Sri Nagar and Katra in jammu and Kashmir. Air Deccan has offered an inaugural flight ticket of Rs zero (plus taxes) in the Delhi-Leh flight.

The Air Deccan flights to Leh from Delhi start today, May 23. The daily flight from capital New Delhi will depart at 5.20 AM in the morning and arrive at Leh airpor at 6.50 AM. The retunr trip will start from Leh at 7.20 AM and reach New Delhi airport at 8.40 AM.

Besides being a scenic location, Leh is also a major tourist spot. It is known as India's Little Tibet. Covered in snow for over seven months a year, access to the mountainous Leh gets a leg-up with the Delhi-Leh Air Deccan flight. Tickets for the Delhi-Leh route can be booked on Air Deccan's website.

According to Air Deccan MD Captain GR Gopinath, low-cost flights to Leh and Ladakh was a basic necessity since the region is inaccessible by road or rail for a major part of the year. In 2006, about 40,000 visitors came to Leh from India and all across the world. Air Deccan that it hopes to serve those wanting to visit Leh but cannot due to lack of proper transport.

Air Deccan has deployed a 180-seater Airbus A320 to fly the Delhi-Leh route. Dynamic fare pricing is offered on its entire seat inventory.

Air Deccan said it hopes to be a catalyst for the growth of tourism and economy of Leh and Ladakh with its flights to the mountain town.

Air Deccan has asked passengers to arrive at Leh airport at least two hours in advance of the flight, in view of of long security procedures. Jammu & Kashmir borders Pakistan, which has been infiltrating India with trained terrorists from across the border. Due to this, security procedures and formalities at all airports in Jammu and Kashmir are much more than in other airports in India.
