Airline tycoon Vijay Mallya today said that he is interested in buying SpiceJet. However, there have not been any discussions between the SpiceJet promoters and Vijay Mallya so far.
Vijay Mallya, whose UB Holdings acquired control over Air Deccan last month in a Rs 550-crore deal said that though he is intersted in SpiceJet, he was not a predator. He said that if SpiceJet shareholders were interested, they would have got in touch with him.
However, news agencies reported that there have been no discussions between SpiceJet promoters and Vijay Mallya so far.
Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines, in alliance with Air Deccan, is now the largest airline combine in India with the largest fleet, network and marketshare. A potential acquisition of SpiceJet will make Vijay Mallya the undisputed No.1 airline player in India.
