The civil aviation sector in the last three years has surpassed traditionally preferred transportation mediums, viz., railways and road. It is a phase of rapid growth in the industry with an estimated growth of 50 per cent per annum in the domestic passenger segment. This has lead to intense price competition due to which full service carriers are offering discounts up to 60 per cent for certain routes to match the new entrant’s ticket prices. With the rising competition in the sector, the frequency levels and capacity of the airlines are also following the upward trend.
