GoAir is planning to go for an IPO. The IPO is likely in 2008-09.
GoAir MD Jehangir (Jeh) Wadia said he has already received some proposals from high networth individuals and foreign institutional investors for buying stakes in GoAir. The company, which is part of the Wadia group, is examining the proposals. Wadia Group owns Bombay Dyeing, which runs one of India's largest textile apparel businesses.
GoAir is also planning to set up an MRO in India. The GoAir MRO is likely to be running by July August, said Jeh Wadia.
The GoAir MRO, to be set up in joint venture with Singapore Airlines Engineering Company, will have an investment of $30 million. The GoAir MRO will carry out both line maintenance and heavy maintenance of aircraft. The company has not decided where the MRO will set up.
The aviation boom in India has tempted many airlines like Air India, Jet Airways and GoAir to launch their own MRO businesses.
The merged airline National Airline Company will have a strategic business unit focusing on the MRO business, said V Thulasidas who head the company. Indian Airlines has recently signed up with Jupiter Aviation and Airbus Industrie to set up an MRO in Nagpur in central India. The size of global MRO industry is pegged at $41 billion.
